Peterson CAT has an immediate opening for a Heavy Duty Mechanic working on Building Construction Products (BCP)/Compact Construction Equipment (CCE) equipment in San Leandro. Performs service activities primarily in the CCE service shop. 


  • maintain a safe working environment and observe all safety procedures, laws, policies and rules.
  • Communicate with internal and external customers in a manner that promotes a positive relationship.
  • Work overtime as needed within labor law guidelines.
  • Perform the following service operations on BCP and CCE equipment with occasional supervision:
  • Analyze and diagnose equipment malfunctions.
  • Repair, replace or rebuild engines, transmissions, fuel systems, final drives, steering clutches, cross-shafts, hydraulic components including pumps, motors, valves, and all related components, electrical and air systems on BCP and CCE equipment.
  • Write service reports that accurately document activities.



The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree in a related field and four years of heavy equipment service experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Caterpillar equipment experience is highly desirable.
  • Must have lift truck operator certificate or ability to obtain one.
  • Candidate must have their own tools.
  • Must have a valid CA drivers license and must provide a current DMV printout.
  • Must be a member of Local 3 or willing to become one.
