Peterson has an immediate need for an experienced Technical Communicator at our San Leandro, CA location.  The person in the position provides technical information support, both inside and outside of company. 

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with field technicians, shop technician and customers, over phone or in person, to help solve maintenance and service problems related to tractor machines; work with shop personnel at all locations to provide technical support to help solve maintenance and service problems.
  • Serves as principle communication liaison with manufacturers on all technical issues and initiatives set forth by manufacturers.
  • Responsible for continuous improvement toward the communication effort in the sharing of information throughout the company.
  • Evaluates the need and involvement necessary for all manufacturers’ assistance.
  • Provides assistance and guidance to new generation machine technologies.
  • Provides failure analysis expertise to assist in resolution of failures.
  • Provides assistance in designing and conducting of test procedures and troubleshooting as needed by the service departments.
  • Will be available for all locations as needed, to assist with customer visits in the investigation and explanation of product issues.
  • Serves as trainer in the use of technical information systems and applications (SIS, ET, etc….), and special tooling needed for troubleshooting and repairing machines.
  • Will be responsible for the security and storage of sensitive and confidential information, and how it is to be conveyed to company personnel.
  • May be required for support in legal proceedings for technical issues when it pertains to machine performance and/or specifications.
  • Will provide assistance in cost evaluations due to product problems and failures.
  • Records information on service and operation problems of tractors; locates and distributes appropriate service literature to aide in repair or diagnosis; perform research as needed; control technical bulletins and literature, and blue print requests from Caterpillar.
  • Conduct job audits; ensure use of proper parts, tools and procedures; write up and distribute repair procedures for new repairs.
  • Design and conduct tractor test procedures; train others in use of test procedures; understand and teach Caterpillar tractor testing tools.
  • Serve as member of Peterson’s Service Work Audit Team.

Qualifications

Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-Year College or technical school in a related field; and three (3) to five (5) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess a thorough knowledge of Caterpillar equipment, parts, and have good working knowledge of construction equipment in general.
