    Peterson has an immediate need for an experienced Senior Engineering Specialist at our San Leandro, CA location.  The person in the position will provide support for the sales team to insure proper application engineering, equipment selection, system integration and design specifications along with code compliance and safety are all considered in our offerings to our customers. 


    • Support our Marketing and Sales efforts by working in concert with contractors, engineering firms, end user customers, sales representatives, project management and project engineering teams, and other departments within Peterson to provide accurate project cost estimates on well-designed high performance, high reliability (availability) electric power systems that provide exceptional customer value.
    • Respond to technical questions from Engineers and Customers.
    • Develop a list of preferred supplier partners based on criteria not limited to:
      • Product performance
      • Reliability
      • Quality
      • Competitive pricing
      • Parts and service support
    • Work with all project stake holders (i.e. customer, design engineer, Caterpillar, vendors, Peterson service department) to ensure Peterson’s Power Generation solutions meet all local, state, federal codes in addition to other industry standards (i.e., ISO, IEEE). 
    • Support sales reps with specification review and value engineering options that adhere to all project requirements (i.e.  OSHPD, NFPA, Regional AQMD, etc.).
    • Collaborate with sales reps to ensure project cost estimates and project schedules are realistic and meet the customer’s needs and requirements.
    • Work with Caterpillar District Sales Representative and Application Support Center to address engineering questions
    • Develop processes that reduce the time required to prepare project estimates and increase their accuracy.
    • By continuously staying abreast of new technologies and products ensure we are able to provide top flight engineering support to our customers, our sales and service departments. 
    • Regular attendance and timeliness is an essential function of the job.
    • Works collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation.

      • Focus on improving the efficiency of all project engineering procedures and processes, collaborate with all departments and stakeholders to promote understanding and buy in.
      • Develop technical training modules and promote "Lunch and Learn" type workshops for internal and external customers.
      • Mentor the Project Engineering team by reinforcing a Customer First attitude; provide accurate and timely information, demonstrate empathy and be responsive to customer's needs.  Take ownership of project details and be accountable for deliverables throughout the life cycle of a project. Follow procedures in usage of project management software, document storage, internal accounting, legal, credit, shipping, vendor, policies.
      • Collaborate with the Project Management team to develop a scorecard for all major vendors, (i.e. Packagers, Switchgear, ATSs, Emissions Control, Logistics).
      • Work with the Sales Manager and sales reps to standardize non-CAT vendor offerings by prequalifying and partnering with non-CAT vendors.
      • Work cooperatively with the Senior Project Managers in Oregon or California to assure alignment on all Processes and Procedures between the offices.
      • As needed, provide support in the Project Manager and/or Project Engineer role.
      • Participate in ongoing education and training to keep up with current technology.
      • Work with Peterson’s Project Management and Service Departments to assure system startups and commissioning are performed in accordance with specifications and manufacturer’s requirements.


    Mechanical and/or Electrical engineering degree with any post graduate work or advanced degree; and five to seven years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
